BASIC WORKFLOW WITH NON DESTRUCTIVE EDITING AND HANDLING
|
SECOND, Developing and maintaining proper archival habits will enable you to KEEP your photos and
not beone of the photographers that has lost important images. TOO easy to do....
THIRD, provide you with the information to "finish" your images non destructively. (Exceedingly important
for photographic quality.) These finish techniques do not apply to "creative" images, but it is a good habit
to maintain your photographic workflow until you decide to go creative. (THIS IS IN THE NEXT
INSTALLMENT!)
DEFINITIONS FOR OUR PURPOSE HERE:
GENERAL USE means:
Taking the best possible photograph, considering the event or occasion, composition, subject and how
you intend to use them. In family events you may share the photos on CD or DVD, possibly via email or by
the camera will protect the file, the digital negative, and allow you to obtain the best possible print if you so
desire.
LARGE PRINT AND/OR COMPETITION PRINT
This end goal has a specific objective, simply the very best enlargement and/or print possible. This goal
has to begin with the very best exposure and is certainly easier to achieve with RAW capture. In the RAW
conversion the file can be maintained as a 16 bit and enlarged by the RAW processor. It can be tweaked
in exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation. It also has a luminous soothing slider which will smooth out
noise. (use sparingly) And other sliders that can affect the final open image. Sliders are great because
you do not have to "know" a lot, just slide according to what you like. You are in charge. The adjustments
you make in one image can be made in many images at the same time. More about RAW capture later.
PHOTOGRAPH:
Since I am a digital artist, for the sake of clairity, "photograph" is being defined to include a photograph
that has possibly been CROPPED, had LEVELS, HUE/SATURATION corrections, DODGED and
BURNED (lighten and darkened), possibly had MINOR repairs/corrections to the background. AND then
SHARPENED just prior to sending to the printer and or preparing for email. No other darkroom work.
